How many checked baggage items can you bring? What is the size and weight limit for each baggage item?

If you already booked your trip, please go to the “Your Reservations” section of the website. You will find personalized information about your baggage allowance based on your trip. This information is also indicated on your trip summary.
The Air France rules indicated on this page apply in most cases, as long as you are traveling on a flight with an Air France flight number (e.g. AF123). Please also remember to consult the rules that apply for your return flight.

  • You are traveling on a direct flight (take-off, landing) with an Air France flight number. In this case, the Air France rules apply to your flight.
  • You are traveling to or from the United States or Canada and the 1st transatlantic flight has an Air France flight number. In this case, the Air France rules apply to all flights on your trip (departure and return).
  • You have at least one connection and the 1st flight between continents (or between countries within the same continent) has an Air France flight number. The Air France rules apply to all flights until your final destination.
    Please check the rules that apply to your return flight.

In all other cases, please check the website of the airline providing your flight.

Number of checked baggage items

Number of checked baggage items included at no extra charge in the price of your ticket

The number of checked baggage items you can transport at no extra charge depends on your travel cabin, fare and Flying Blue status, if you are a member.
Your baggage allowance is displayed when you choose your flights.

Checked baggage allowance by travel cabin
  • In the Economy cabin (Light fare), you can purchase an additional checked baggage Option.
  • In the Economy cabin (except Light fare), you are entitled to 1 checked baggage item weighing up to 23 kg / 50 lb.
  • In the Premium Economy cabin, you are entitled to 2 checked baggage items weighing up to 23 kg / 50 lb each.
  • In the Business cabin, you are entitled to 2 checked baggage items weighing up to 32 kg / 70 lb each.
  • In the La Première cabin, you can check 3 baggage items weighing up to 32 kg / 70 lb each.

FLYING BLUE OR SKYTEAM ELITE AND ELITE PLUS MEMBERS

If you are a Flying Blue Silver, Gold or Platinum, or SkyTeam Elite or Elite Plus member, you are entitled to 1 additional checked baggage item at no extra charge. The permitted weight depends on your travel cabin.
Infants who do not occupy a seat have a checked baggage allowance of 10 kg / 22 lb, with the exception of the Light fare.

Additional baggage

If you'd like to transport more baggage items than permitted with your fare, you can purchase a Baggage Option.

Please note: The number of baggage items permitted is limited to 10 per passenger (3 on some aircraft), including additional Baggage Options. Please contact our Sales Team if you are traveling with more than 3 baggage items per person. Depending on how full our flights are, we will let you know if you can travel with more baggage.

* Except for the 1st baggage item on flights between Europe and North America for passengers with Light fare tickets. In this case, the fee will be identical to current airport prices.

- When buying your ticket online
- At any time after buying your ticket and up to 30 hours before your flight's departure, in the Your Bookings section - During the online check-in process, for flights departing from certain airports and flights provided on Air France aircraft Additional baggage items must not exceed 23 kg / 50.7 lb in weight and 158 cm / 62.2 in (a + b + c) in size.

Checked baggage size

Size limit for checked baggage items included in your fare

Your checked baggage item must not exceed the following dimensions: 158 cm / 62.2 in (a + b + c), (including pockets, wheels and handles).

Oversize Baggage Option

If the dimensions of your checked baggage item exceed 158 cm / 62.2 in, without exceeding 300 cm / 118 in, you must pay an extra fee at the airport. The amount of the fee varies depending on your trip. Please use our calculator below to determine the fee for your trip.

Your oversize baggage

You can purchase an oversize Baggage Option at the airport when you drop off your baggage.

At the airport, you must drop off baggage items with dimensions between 158 cm / 62.2 in and 300 cm / 118 in at the “Oversize Baggage” counter.

Checked baggage weight limit

Weight limit for checked baggage items included in your fare

Checked baggage items must not exceed 23 kg / 50.7 lb in the Economy and Premium Economy cabins or 32 kg / 70.5 lb in the Business and La Première cabins.

Overweight Baggage Option

If your baggage item exceeds the weight limit for your fare, without exceeding 32 kg / 70.5 lb, you must pay an extra fee at the airport.
The amount of this fee varies depending on your trip. Please use our calculator below to determine the fee for your trip.

Your overweight baggage item

You can buy several Baggage Options to suit your needs. Simply add up the fees for each option.
  • Additional Baggage Option: pay online or at the airport
  • Oversize Baggage Option: pay at the airport
  • Overweight Baggage Option: pay at the airport

Prohibited baggage types and protective coverings

Protective coverings made from rudimentary materials (notably with household plastic wrap) will be refused at check-in.
Flexible plastic bags are strictly prohibited on flights departing from Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport and the Strasbourg and Brussels-Midi train stations. These materials can damage airport equipment and delay baggage delivery.

All visibly damaged, improperly covered or unapproved baggage items will be refused at check-in.
